Redmine is the least fashionable and most durable project tracker in existence. It was released in 2006, it is Ruby on Rails, and it will run on a modest virtual machine for the price of a couple of hyperscaler seats — for an unlimited number of users.
More to the point: the issues, the time entries, the wiki and the twenty years of institutional argument that produced your current process all sit in a PostgreSQL database on a disk that belongs to you. There is no export window, no seat audit and no pricing change to absorb.
How we run it
The whole installation is a NixOS module in your repository — Ruby version, gems, plugins, PostgreSQL, nginx, TLS, backup schedule. Rebuilding the server from scratch is one command, and upgrading is a commit that can be reverted.
We migrate the data with history preserved: issue numbers, attachments, timestamps, authors and relations. We restore-test the backups on a schedule and send you the evidence, because a backup nobody has restored is a rumour.
Beyond the default install
Redmine’s real advantage is that it bends. Custom trackers for regulated workflows, time reporting that matches your invoicing, a REST API driving your own dashboards, and an issue tracker your local LLM can query without shipping your roadmap to a third party.
